1970.12.30中共释放的英国银行经理庄士敦回到英国系列报道

 1970年圣诞节前夕,中共释放关押在上海的两名外国人质:被关押28个月的英国渣打银行上海经理庄士敦David Johnston和被关押35个月的意大利船长内罗尼Bruno Neroni(见https://communistchinadoc.blogspot.com/2020/12/19701228_28.html),清晰地表明中共试图缓和与西方国家关系的意图。唯前者获释引起很大的舆论轰动,从宣布获释到抵达香港再到返回英国全程都有跟踪报道,包括庄士敦妻子Elizabeth Johnston在英国得悉消息、去香港迎接丈夫、返回英国等;但对意大利船长的报道很少,甚至直到他从上海到达香港又离开时,南华早报还是称他为神秘人。

1970.12.29南早报道庄士敦夫妇于昨晚离港,但庄遗憾他的同事、朋友比利时人Frans van Roosbroeck(华比银行经理)还在上海坐牢。

按:《李先念年谱(第4卷)》第647页提到,1969.12.17李先念“将中国人民银行总行军代表《关于华比银行欠我美金案在香港谈判情况及今后意见的请示》批给李震。批语说:总理询问华比银行上海分行经理陆师朴案情如何,请你查一下告知总理。”这份请示里说华比银行愿意先一次还清中国全部存款(一千多万美金,是1950年后美国查封的),然后在美国解冻后再支付五百万美元做利息补偿,但条件是中方释放陆师朴出国。注释里说1968年6月1日陆以“收集中国经济情报和非法从事地下领事活动”为由被上海公安抓走。
